Organic agriculture uses methods that preserve the environment and does not allow the use of synthetic materials, pesticides, antibiotics, hormones or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Organically produced crops are not only good for the environment (farmers use practices that enhance and nourish the soil) but are good for human and dog health as well: Research shows that organically-produced foods are higher in anti-oxidants and other beneficial compounds than so-called "conventional foods". Everybody wins with Organic!
Grains are, botanically speaking, the fruits (technically known as caryopses) of grass plants used in agriculture. Common grains include wheat, barley, rye, rice and corn (maize). They contain substantial amounts of starch and are very calorie-rich, though tend to lack significant quantities of micronutrients. We believe that grains are perfectly acceptable components of a well-balanced diet for your dog. However, we also believe that grain-free alternatives (like buckwheat flour) provide all the benefits of grains, plus added micronutrients like polyphenols and other anti-oxidants, as well as protein. As always, consult your veterinarian if you have any questions about your dog's diet.
Each and every one of our treats is made by hand in an FDA approved, organic kitchen on Long Island, NY, USA. Check out our instagram for pictures of us making them and Benji Enjoying them!
